Part D (Prescription Drugs)

Part D is Medicare's prescription drug coverage, sold by private insurers. You add it to Original Medicare, and each plan has its own list of covered drugs (a formulary) and pharmacy network.

In 2026, Part D out-of-pocket spending on covered drugs is capped at $2,100, the old coverage gap is gone, and the deductible can be no higher than $615. Most Medicare Advantage plans include Part D, so a separate plan usually isn't needed with one. Going without creditable drug coverage can trigger a late-enrollment penalty.
